Most panels come through Front Range hail without a mark, but some do not, and a cracked module can look fine from the street. Check from the yard and your app first. Nobody needs to be on a wet roof the evening of a storm.
What do I check first?
Wait until the storm has passed and lightning has stopped.
Stay off the roof
Wet shingles and hail pellets are slick. Do every check from the ground.
Photograph the hail
Lay a few stones beside a coin or ruler and take a dated photo.
Walk the yard
Look at each row from several angles for cracks, shattered glass or bent frames.
Zoom with your phone
Photograph every row at full zoom. Spiderweb cracks show best with the sun behind you.
Check the ground
Glass fragments, broken clips or loose wire on the lawn mean damage above.
Read your app
Compare the next clear day with the clear day before the storm, panel by panel if you can.
Note other damage
Dented gutters, vents and siding help your roofer and insurer judge the storm.
Who should I call?
Each problem has an owner. We do visual checks only.
Your installer
Cracked panels, a dead panel in the app, loose wiring or a tripped system.
A roofer
Damaged shingles, flashing or vents around and under the array.
Your insurer
Any claim. Call early and send your dated photos; they set the next steps.
Us, for photos
A storm check photographs every module and notes what you should show the others.
Hail questions
Should I turn my system off after hail?
If you see broken glass, exposed wiring or burn marks, or your app shows a fault, call your installer and follow their instructions on shutting down. We do not give electrical advice and do not touch wiring. If nothing looks damaged and the app reads normally, there is usually no reason to act before a closer look.
Can cracked panels still make power?
Often, for a while, which is why cracks get missed. A cracked module can lose output slowly as water gets in, and the app may not show it at first. That is why a close look with photos matters, even when the numbers seem fine the day after the storm.
What does a storm check include?
A glass-level look at every module by our two-person crew, photos of anything cracked, chipped or bent, notes on gutters and flashing we can see, and a plain summary of who to call. It is visual only, from $119, and not an insurance assessment.
Do I need a storm check if the panels look fine?
Not always. If your photos show clean glass and your app matches the clear day before the storm, you may not need one. Book one if the hail was large, your neighbors are filing claims, or you want photos on file before the insurer’s adjuster visits.
How soon after a storm can you come?
Usually within a few days once the roof is dry, and we reply within one business day of your message. After a big storm the queue grows, so send your ground photos with the request and we will tell you honestly whether yours looks urgent.
Want every module looked at?
A storm check documents each panel with photos and plain notes, from $119.
